If I Hold My Peace
What happens if we hold our peace? The church was never called to be silent. We are called to be the voice of God against whom the gates of hell cannot stand. We are called to be witnesses and beacons of light in a lost world.
They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. -- Acts 17:11
Berea Project is a site dedicated to going back to the Bible and examining it as the primary source for what we believe. The site contains resources and articles designed to help anyone who desires to study the Word of God. We are also creating tools to help ministers teach God's Word to others.
This site is under construction. We have been working on our layout and are about finished. We will start adding content soon. For now please enjoy the devotions that we have so far. Feel free to email me at jbatchelor@bereaproject.org if you would like to contribute your own articles, sermons or other materials. I have forms on several sections of the site asking for feedback and ideas specific to those areas of the site as well.

The Word of God is under constant attack from those who would discredit it. Equally damaging are the attacks from those who misuse it. In this message, I proclaim the importance of the Word of God and our need understand it for what it is. The Word of God is what it is and says what it says for a reason. Since Scripture is of no private interpretation, it is up to each of us to know what it means.

Read MoreThy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. That is a huge statement to pray and that we should be praying everyday. It is a statement of faith as much as a request because through it we are putting our lives into God’s hands. The results may not always be what we desire.

Read MoreWhat if I were to tell you that there was an insidious lie believed in our churches? What if I told you that this lie steals our joy, makes us angry at God and leaves us wallowing in mediocrity? What if it were so craftily made that it sounds Biblical despite there being no evidence of it being true in the Bible? In this message, I explain the some ways that satan twists God’s words to try and destroy our peace and to keep us from living the life that God wants from us. I also explain that trials and temptations are universal and come against us all. At some point, we need to understand that only by living for God can we strike back at the devil. We need to take a stand and fight back.

Read MoreTo many people today love is an emotion that can be fallen into and fallen out of. God’s expression and expectation of love are dramatically different. He gave His life for us before we knew or loved Him. To God love is action and sacrifice regardless of reciprocation. He expects us to love each other in the same way. Once love becomes about what you can do for your spouse a truly deep and intimate relationship can begin.
Read MoreWe have a tendency to think and act in the short term. In our marriages, jobs, and other aspects of life we have a tendency to react to situations to correct them quickly even if that means being abrasive or hurtful because it gets us the immediate results we want. God calls us to a better way when he tells us that we are to be patient and long-suffering. When we begin to respond to our spouse and children with patience we will begin to see relationships that blossom and attitudes and actions that are more loving. The long-term health of any relationship rests on our ability to practice patience and long-suffering.

Throughout Jesus' life, he became a man of sorrows a scriptures said he would be. He was God almighty but he was also "despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." –Isaiah 53:3 He went through all of this so that, having experienced those pains and rejections himself, he could meet us in our time of need.

Because of this, we have millions of people, causes and brands doing all they can to get our attention. It is very easy for us to lose sight of what is important and focus instead on things that are merely transient. This is never more true than during the Christmas holiday season.
